TAXES TAXES TAXES

By Daniel Eaton

This economy is something else, mix in a little politics and you create a fine stew.

I keep hearing politicians saying they are only going to increase taxes for people that make more than $200,000 a year, that they should pay their fair share. Did they not notice that the tax rate already increases with the more you earn? What is the message they are sending to the youth of our nation?

Study hard and you will get into a good school. With the knowledge you gain from a fine education you can get a great job. Work hard, earn more and save for your retirement. With the wealth that you EARNED you most likely provide more than average to charitable organizations, and with your position, also provide contributions as a company. So the real message that the politicians are sending, "If you study and work hard, our government will penalize you for achieving prosperity by removing part of your wealth because you simply make too much."

Where is the incentive? Should government dictate how much you are allowed to earn? I am not sure that we are heading in the right direction as a nation. The philosophy of taking from the rich and giving to the poor is not the answer. It is a matter of providing opportunity with incentives.

We are still in a real mess. With foreclosures abound and people out of work, local government is in trouble. Additional lay-offs in government are occurring, including critical infrastructure such as police, fire and paramedics all because local counties lost revenue from the real estate taxes, sales taxes and other revenue sources.

The bottom line is don't stew. Let your elected officials be aware of how you feel.
