A P A T H Y

As a child of the 60'S I am finding the amount of apathy today totally amazing. We sat back and watched on the television as the the United States of America attacked the sovereign nation of Iraq, we sat back and watched the news of major financial institution announcing their demise, we sat back and watched the automobile industry start to fail, we watched as more banks go under, and then I watched my retirement savings loose 58% of it's value and watched he value of my home drop $95,000. Like so many others, I worked very hard all of my life to get where I am today.

There is plenty of blame to go around, but I find it most disturbing that our nation's leaders did not see this financial perfect storm coming. Business reported to a myriad of agencies such as the IRS, Security and Exchange Commission, the Federal Reserve System, yet no one seen this on the horizon?

Now the politicians introduce the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 AKA, TARP and now we have American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. If it's broke, just throw money at the problem and it will fix itself.

No doubt about it, something needed to be done. What is amazing that in this well connected world of ours, with cell phones and the internet there just isn't the outrage that we seen in 60's. From Vietnam to Nixon, people made their voices known. People made change with small yet effective, "Give dirty water the works", campaign. With today's tools, we should have our Washington representatives on speed dial, on our cell phones and their email address in our email address books.

The more I hear about the political infighting, the release of prisoners, terrorist organizations that use U.S. hosting companies and amnesty for illegal aliens my head feels like it is going to explode. Am I the only person that feels the outrage? If we don't speak up, we deserve what we get. I believe in a country for the people . . . by the people.
